India has committed to net zero emissions at the 26th Conference of Parties (COP26) at Glasgow. India’s Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi committed to installing non-fossil fuel electricity generation capacity of 500 GW, while sourcing 50% of India’s energy requirement from renewables, as well as reducing 1 billion tonnes of projected emissions (from current emissions outputs). India has also committed to achieving the ambitious goal of carbon intensity reduction by 40% over 2005 levels, by the year 2030.
